  I reached across the seat and took Lexi’s hand in mine. “I love you, baby,” I told her with a smile. She looked a little surprised, maybe shocked, and I knew it was caused by the way I brushed Miley off. She smiled over at me as we made our way to the apartment. I hoped that I had just eliminated some of her insecurities, but if not I’d keep proving my love for her.

  We had a few hours to waste before my furniture would be here. I already had an idea of how I wanted to spend it.

  “I want you to move in with me. I’m ready to share my life with you fully. Megan could move in with Radley and you could move in here. Please think about it.” She closed her eyes and bit her lip; I knew she was thinking. “You, baby…just you and me. You’re everything I want, Lexi. I want us forever.” She swallowed hard and I slipped from the bed. I watched as she pulled the sheet up around her and sat up to watch me.

  I had planned to do this later this weekend, but couldn’t wait any longer. I took the box from my drawer and walked back to the bed, feeling my heart beat rapidly. I sat next to her and watched her eyes as they fell between us. When she looked back up to me her eyes were full of tears.

  “Lexi Nicole Warren, I love you with all my heart and soul. I want to build a life with you because I can’t live without you. You bring me such happiness every day and I want to spend the rest of my days with you in my arms.” I took the ring from the box and held it out between us. I looked up to her just as a tear slipped down her cheek. “Will you marry me?” I held my breath as I waited for her response.

  Lexi lowered the sheet and crawled toward me as she straddled my legs. She took my face into her hands and lowered her lips to mine. She kissed me and I felt her body shudder against me. When she pulled back she whispered the best word I’d ever heard in my life. “Yes.”

  Sliding the ring onto her finger felt better than I’d ever imagined. And the smile on her face in that moment was a smile I’d give anything to see every day for the rest of my life.

  Chapter 3

  Lexi

  “Let me see it!” Megan shrieked as she ran into the kitchen, acting like a child on Christmas morning. I held out my hand that now held the most gorgeous ring I’d ever seen and she took it into hers.

  “Megan, why are you so eager? You saw it when he bought it!” Radley hollered from the doorway as he shut it behind him.

  “I know, but seeing it on is so much better than seeing it in a velvet box.” She pulled me close and hugged me tightly. “I told you he was completely in love with you. You have nothing to worry about, Lex,” she whispered against my ear. When she pulled back we both shared a knowing smile.

  Looking down at the diamond on my hand I knew she was right. Kole didn’t have to propose to me. If he had any thoughts about us not being together I know he wouldn’t have given me this ring. It was real, we were real. I had to stop questioning his love.

  I felt his arms wrap around me from behind, pulling me back into his chest. He placed a soft kiss against my shoulder and I reached over my head to feel his face against my palm. “Do you like it?”

  I immediately turned in his arms and looked up at him. “Of course I love it, Kole, it’s beautiful. I love it even more because you’re the one who gave it to me. I love you.” He kissed me, holding me as close to his body as possible.

  I pushed against his chest and backed away. “Not sure yet. I think I need you to try and convince me later. Ya know, show me what I’d be missing if I chose to stay in the dorm until you made an honest woman out of me.”

  His eyes were gleaming at the challenge. He never liked to lose.

  He took a step toward me with a smirk and I knew then that I was in trouble. “How about I just show you now?” He reached out to grab for me and I slipped away before he could get a good hold and began moving toward the living room.

  I thought I’d gotten away until he hooked me around the waist from behind, causing me to squeal in surprise. He tossed me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and began walking toward the bedroom. I tried my best to wiggle free.

  “Kole, no! Stop!” I begged, but it did nothing to stop him.

  Megan was laughing as if this was the funniest thing she had seen and I flipped her off for the lack of help in my time of need. Radley just shook his head as if we’d all lost our minds before looking back toward the television.

  We entered the bedroom and Kole immediately lowered me to the floor. I took a step backwards placing some distance between us and never once took my eyes off his. That devious grin of his told me he had no intentions of letting me out of this room any time soon. He appeared as if he was about to devour me and I had no choice in the matter.

  “Kole, we have company. This is rude.” I continued to back away from him until I was against the wall next to the bathroom door.

  “All you have to do is answer my question, Lexi.”

  I was getting nervous because he was stalking me as if I were his prey. The thing was I wasn’t sure I wanted to stop him. I really just wanted to get lost in each other. I knew we needed to get back out in the living room; I also knew my answer to his question, so I could stop this entire thing at any moment.

  I loved the way he was looking at me, though. His tongue was resting against his lip with the glimmer of his piercing shimmering in the light; it was erotic.

  He was inches from me and I felt the heat rise in my cheeks with the thoughts of what he could do to me with that tongue and those lips. He placed his hands against the wall on each side of my head and leaned forward.

  “Just answer me, baby,” he whispered. “You can stop this with the right answer,” he assured me as he skimmed over my lips with his.

  “What if I don’t want to stop it? What if I want you—right here, right now?” I teased back.

  He brushed his lips against mine softly, taunting me, causing me to shiver. We watched one another without saying anything more. We were waiting silently for the other’s next move.

  Kole continuously flipped his gaze from my mouth to my eyes, as if he was trying to make a choice. I rose up on my tip toes and whispered against his lips. “If Radley and Megan weren’t here, we’d continue this…for hours.” I felt his tongue trace my lip, taunting me slowly and my knees grew weak. “Yes, Kole; I’ll move in with you.” I caved, giving him the answer he wanted.

  He smiled and kissed me gently, not giving too much, before backing away. I watched as he walked out of the room, leaving me slouched against the wall in a puddle of sexual tension. I blew out a loud steadying breath and pushed off the wall, knowing that I had just been played.

  When I made my way back to the living room, Kole looked up from the couch and grinned. I offered him a glare as I sat in the recliner instead of next to him.

  Radley looked back and forth between the two of us curiously, before speaking.

  “Dude, she doesn’t look satisfied. Maybe you should take her back in there and relieve some of that crankiness, because she should be smiling.” Megan punched him in the gut. “What? I’m just saying she looks like she needs a little more lovin’.”

  Kole’s eyes connected with mine as he answered Radley. “Lexi’s just upset because she tried to seduce me in the bedroom and I told her we were being rude to our company.” He laughed when I narrowed my eyes at him before getting up and going to the kitchen to order pizza.

  Once I reentered the living room after placing the order, Kole was in my chair. Radley was stretched out on the couch and Megan took over the other recliner. Kole was watching me awaiting my next move. His fingers were laced together, resting on his stomach. He actually thought he’d won. I glared in his direction and he tried to hide his smile. I’d show him.

  He wasn’t that slick.

  I glided past him deliberately shaking my hips a little more than usual. I looked over my shoulder, watching his eyes fall to my ass and instantly felt triumphant. Mission accomplished, I thought as I flopped down onto Megan’s lap. Kole grinned and both Megan and Radley laughed behind their hands. I continued to glare at him holding back all signs of amusement.

  I was getting really good at proving a point with Kole. I could be severely stubborn and thick-headed. This just seemed like the perfect time to show off that side of me.

  When the pizza arrived Kole and Radley paid and we all ate around the coffee table watching 40-Year-Old Virgin on Netflix. Of course the guys got into a conversation about not being able to go that long without sex.

  And I found the opportunity to torment Kole even a little more.

  I watched Kole closely without smiling. “I could go without sex,” I said with a shrug. “I mean, it’s good and all, but…I could go without it.”

  Kole never took his eyes away from mine. Radley laughed from my left. “Damn, dude. You need to step it up a notch. Your girl doesn’t need your noodle. You gotta be doing something wrong.”

  Kole stared a little longer before a cocky smile spread out over his lips. “I think I feel a challenge coming on. What do you say, Lex?”

  I shrugged my shoulders and waited for him to continue.

  “Fine. We’ll see who can hold out the longest. Sound like a plan?” he asked with a smirk.

  I smiled in return. “Sounds like plan.” I looked over at Radley and Megan who were both watching us with interest. When I saw Megan attempting to hide her laughter behind her hand, I knew she had an idea of what I would say next. “That includes self-pleasuring, too.”

  Kole’s lips curved up just a little more. “Challenge accepted.” We stared at one another for a few silent moments before I heard Megan giggle and Radley laugh.

  Kole wanted a challenge and now he had one. But make no mistake, I planned on torturing him every chance I got. Wait until no one was here and I unpacked boxes in the nude. I caught myself smiling as I thought of the millions of ways I could make him cave.

  Megan was watching me as she spoke to Kole. “Kole, you’re in so much trouble. I can see the wheels turning and it doesn’t look so good for you.”

  Kole just smiled and watched as I picked up the plates and started cleaning up the mess from dinner.

  Megan and Radley decided to it was time to leave around 11:00. My evening was already planned and Kole was keeping a safe distance from me. I saw him disappear into the bedroom and I slipped into the bathroom for a shower. I took extra time to shave my legs and trim up nice and clean, as thoughts of teasing him rolled through my mind. I applied my coconut lotion and sprayed on a small amount of Kole’s favorite perfume, all with a smile on my face. I folded my towel, lay it on the sink and slowly opened the door.

  When I entered the bedroom Kole had already turned out the light and was lying in bed. Disappointment ran through me. My plan wasn’t going like I’d hoped. I made sure to rub my leg against his suggestively as I climbed in bed.

  When I heard his light snore I felt like punching him. I groaned in frustration and flopped onto my side. This was really not going the way I had planned. I felt a forfeit on my part coming on very quickly.

  I thought this would all be so easy. But already I was second guessing myself.

  Chapter 4

  Kole

  I still heard her laughing as I flipped on the shower. I turned to find her standing in the doorway…still naked. “Remember—no self-pleasuring. You just have to deal with the hunger.” She spun around and shook her naked ass all the way back to the bed. I let out a deep calming breath and flipped the water to cold.

  I felt a little better once I was out of the shower and dressed to head to the gym. I had two clients today and a meeting with a new one this morning. Everything was falling into place.

  I loved being a personal trainer. It had always been a dream of mine to start my own gym.
